FOR RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
CHEETAH knowledge Exchange Portal is an integral part of CHEETAH project web site powered and developed by DTE unit of ENEA ©2014 - 2018 with support of all CHEETAH Partners. Starting from early 2018, CHEETAH KEP moved its first steps to became EERA Knowledge Exchange Platform for PV Technology (KEPT-PV). A new name for the previous platform characterizing our will to serve better and more efficiently in Knowledge Exchange a wider European and International PV RTD community.

FHG-ISE Indoor/outdoor reliability Testing facility for PV modules

[Cheetah Partner]
  • Indoor  investigation of the photodegradation of PV-modules exposed to UV irradiation under controlled environmental conditions
  • Solar exposure in different ambient climate

Technical Info

MAIN FEATURES:

Test lab PV module Unit provides services including all measurements and tests for the design qualification and type approval of PV modules. FH scientist/reserachers and experts apply their own expertise to the development and revision of test standards, and to support customers in solving individual challenges concerning the quality and service life of their products. The main field of interest of Test lab PV module  service unit are:

Test procedures for investigating the effects of single stress factors such as
temperature change, ultraviolet radiation, humidity, salt and high voltage and intensive exposure to these factors are topics on which science and industry are working to  develop innovative materials and accelerated test procedures for PV modules reliability.

FH-ISE UV Indoor/outdoor  Module Testing facility provide following opportunities:

UV- Indoor Module Testing

Investigation of the photodegradation of entire PV-modules exposed to UV irradiation under controlled environmental conditions:

  • UV-irradiation of 100W/m² with enhanced UV-B part in dry ambience cabinet
  • UV-irradiation of 200W/m² in humid environment in a climatic cabinet

Module temperature and ambient temperature and humidity are monitored. IV curves, electroluminescence and any reliability testing can be obtained

Outdoor  Module testing

Investigation of the degradation of PV-modules under natural weathering at extreme climates  in the following areas by monitoring  ambient climate, module temperatures, IV - curves

  • Freiburg, Germany (central European reference)
  • Sde Boqer, Israel (arid)
  • Alpes, Germany (alpine)
  • Pozo Izquierdo, Canary Islands, Spain (maritime)

Sensitivity to potential-induced degradation (PID) can be evaluated by applying a bias voltage up to 1500V

LIMITATIONS OR CONSTRAINTS :

  1. Indoor module size (max) 1,8 x 1,3m
  2. Outdoor size Max) Module size (max) : 2.3 x 1.3m

TYPICAL SERVICES OR RESULTS

Support will be provided to define the experiment and to analyze the resulting raw data.Users will then be able to analyze the samples  with their own favorite tools

Participation to Research Projects:

  • To develop procedures for advanced failure analysis, to elaborate database on material properties and degradation mechanisms (indoor)
  • Elaborate database on material properties and real degradation mechanisms (outdoor)
