CHEETAH knowledge Exchange Portal is an integral part of CHEETAH project web site powered and developed by DTE unit of ENEA ©2014 - 2018 with support of all CHEETAH Partners. Starting from early 2018, CHEETAH KEP moved its first steps to became EERA Knowledge Exchange Platform for PV Technology (KEPT-PV). A new name for the previous platform characterizing our will to serve better and more efficiently in Knowledge Exchange a wider European and International PV RTD community.

Solar Resource Knowledge for PV applications:current tools and needs

CHEETAH Webinar

4th  April 2017
11:00 – 12:10CEST

Solar resource knowledge is an important task at several stages of any solar system PV facility and project. The  accurate knowledge of incoming solar irradiance is of highly interest in the preliminary studies, in feasibility analysis, and during performance evaluation and monitoring of PV systems. This webinar will present an overview of the fundamental basis of solar radiation at the earth’s surface (solar radiation components, interaction with atmospheric constituents), measuring devices, data bases of solar radiation and sources of information, and modelling solar radiation for PV application.Measuring the solar radiation components properly is essential at many different stages of solar energy projects (site prospecting, modelling and monitoring plant output, forecasting, etc).  Uncertainty in solar resource assessment is probably the most contributor to the uncertainty in energy rating of any solar system for electricity generation (both in PV and CSP technologies). Likewise, modelling solar irradiance components is essential in many aspects and it usually requires accurate ground measurements to reduce the uncertainty of the output. In particular, accurate of long-term solar radiation time series is fundamental to bankability and feasibility studies. The webinar is intended to give a general overview on the role that solar resource assessment plays in PV deployment and on the main characteristics of available sources of information of solar radiation as well.
