Rannveig Kvande has a PhD within the field of directional solidification of mc-Si where she participated in developing new silica crucible concepts in close cooperation with Vesuvius. She also studied the incorporation and impact of impurities (especially iron) in mc-Si. She has worked in industry for several years in developing the SOLSILC process, producing upgraded metallurgical grade silicon (UMG-Si) based on high purity raw materials. Her main interests are the crystallization process and characterization of solar cell silicon but has also substantial experience within silicon production and refining.
