Short Bio
Nieves Vela Barrionuevo obtaibned her degree in Chemistry from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and PhD in Sciences by the University of Jaén (UJA). She has worked in photovoltaic (PV) solar energy since she joined the Ciemat in 1988.
Currently is the head of the Photovoltaic Energy Unit. The team is composed of 23 researchers (18 PhD) and 7 technicians. The main lines of research of the PV Unit are; PV devices based on deposited silicon deposited, new materials for PV thin-film solar cells, Calibration of PV sensors, PV cells and modules, Characterization and reliability of PV components, Self-consumption and PV building integration and Stand-alone and grid-connected PV plants.
Her main field of activity is the characterization and testing of photovoltaic modules and batteries for photovoltaic applications. She has been involved in different European R&D projects and she has published his research results in 22 articles in scientific journals and national and international congresses.
She has participated as a teacher in various training courses and master's programmes related to photovoltaic solar energy.
