The European PhD School organizing committee is pleased to announce the 17th edition of the European PhD School: Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, Energy Control and Power Systems. The School was founded in 1999 with the goal of providing Ph.D. students with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge in the research areas of Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Systems. Subsequently, the School has gained an increasing relevance thanks to the participation of highly qualified lecturers: in 2009 the School obtained the title of “European” Ph.D. School

The Program:

Detailed program can be found on event  website: www.phd-school.org

As for the past editions, the program includes two parallel sessions on "power systems" and “electrical machines and drives”. We invited executives from industries and excellences from academia as lectures, such as:

  • Prof. L. Lorenz (President of ECPE) for a keynote about Power Electronics
  • Prof. M. Hiller, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie – Germany (Multilevel converters for high power applications)
  • Dr. S. Colombi, General Electric – Switzerland (Power Converters for energy distribution)
  • Dr. J. S. Lee and Dr. M. Ishigaki, Toyota Technical Center – North America (Road vehicles: onboard energy management and efficiency)
  • Dr. K. Woronowicz – Bombardier Transport – Canada – (Transit linear induction motors – theory, FEA and control, benefits and application and Importance of electromagnetic design in Inductive Power Transfer)
  • Prof. C.A. Nucci – University of Bologna – Italy – (provisional title: New trends in powers systems)
  • Prof. U. Scheuermann, Semikron (Power modules and reliability)
  • Prof. G. Hug-Glanzmann, ETH Zürich – Switzerland – (Distributed optimization in power systems)
  • Prof. H. Tischmacher, Siemens (Side effects of motor – converter interactions in electric drive systems)
  • Prof. N. Bianchi, University of Padua – Italy (Open source SW approach for electrical machines and power systems design and modelling)
  • Prof. I. Boldea, University of Timisoara – Romania (Electric generators in modern power systems)

A special poster session will be also organized the first day, where all Ph.D. students are expected to present their research activities in order to promote future collaboration with universities and companies. A great chance for students to share their experiences and knowledge.

After the poster session, a number of established companies in the field of power electronics, electrical  drives and systems will meet PhD students in a dedicated meeting area, in order to start cooperation, internships and, also, for recruitment!

Interested companies  are kindly invited to send an e-mail to europeanphdschool@gmail.com.

Please, consider that the School isn't reserved to PhD sudents only,  but it is  also open to young researchers coming from academia and from industries
