CHEETAH Webinar*
How technology innovation is anticipated to reduce the cost from PV installations.
23 May 2016 11:00 – 12:00 CET
How is technology innovation anticipated to reduce the cost from European PV installations? A recent study published by KIC InnoEnergy highlights more than 30 innovations that target cost reduction in photovoltaics. Behind this study that consists of a static representation of the situation at a specific point in time, lies a methodology and an advanced free of access modeling tool that allow everyone to keep track of the impact that any innovation can bring in terms of cost reduction.
Cheetah project is focusing among others on high-level technology development in the field of ultra-thin crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells and advanced processing steps. Recently, a leading part of the research partners, worked with SolarPower Europe and KIC InnoEnergy methodology and tool, to provide a solid estimate on the cost impact that such technology breakthroughs (ultrathin and epitaxial wafer cells and modules) could have in comparison with the existing "conventional" c-Si.
The results although preliminary and under further assessment are very promising. Those results are part of a wider cost assessment work stream that has been initiated one year ago.
